Hello, hello!

I’m sitting on the deck in bright sunshine, crickets chirping (which I love), wrapped in the feel of a New England autumn. I always wish summer could last forever, but a sunny fall day in Boston is a pretty good consolation for now being solidly in the month of October. Plus, pies 🤗

Here are 5 recipes to bake in October:

Spiced Blackberry Pie

This pie blends the brightness of summer with the warmth of fall: juicy blackberries are tucked inside a flaky, buttery pie crust and infused with just the right mix of cinnamon, allspice, ginger, and a hint of clove.

Malted Chocolate Rice Crispy Treats

This recipe comes from my other website, Everyday Family Eats: Chocolate Rice Crispy Treats take the gooey bar up a notch with decadent dark chocolate and malted milk powder, giving it a roasty, toasty delicious twist. And of course, they're super easy to make which is always a bonus.

No-Bake Pumpkin Cake

Featuring layers of no-bake pumpkin cream, marshmallow cream, and graham crackers, this no-bake cake is finished with maple whipped cream and chopped pecans for a dessert that doesn’t ask you to turn on the oven.

Pumpkin Pie Bars

These Pumpkin Pie Bars pay homage to the classic pie, while also making it a bit easier to put together by turning them into a dessert bar instead.

Buckwheat Oat Chocolate Chip Cookies

Unique in all the best ways, these Buckwheat Chocolate Chip Cookies have a crisp exterior, a soft center, and incredible flavor. They’re quick to make and even quicker to disappear. Naturally gluten-free, they’re a cookie everyone will love.

What's Coming Up:

I have a deluge of new recipes in the que to share with you (Nectarine Plum Pie, No-Bake Boston Cream Pie, Apple Pie Bars and so so so many more), but it's taken me quite a while to play catch up from all the time I've needed to take off from work these last few ways. But you'll be the first to know when they make their appearance on the website!

As the season starts to shift, I hope you’re finding little moments of calm and comfort. And maybe a bit of time to bake something for yourself and the people you love!

Kelli Avila January 23, 2026 Hi and Happy New Year! For some people, the start of the year revolves around gym memberships and fresh starts, but us bakers? And this year, I’m coming in with the energy that anything is possible. I’ve been a professional baker for...

Kelli Avila January 23, 2026 Hi and hello, this is my last e-mail of 2025! Today I’m thinking about pickies (and puff pastry). Pickies is what my grandmother used to call snacks served at a get together. She always wanted to make sure we had enough pickies, and I take that energy with me into every situation. Whether you’re hosting or just sitting around grazing your way into the new year, it's essential to have ALL of the pickies. And since it’s the stretch between major holidays, when most...
