8 Cherry Recipes to Make Before Cherry Season Is Gone

Hello and happy Friday!

Cherry season is short, and it's easy to blink and miss it. If you've got a bag (or two) of cherries sitting on the counter right now, or you're headed to the farmers market this weekend, here are my favorite cherry recipes to make while they're still available. Some of these recipes call for frozen cherries, but fresh cherries can be swapped in too!

Cherry Pie Bars

This one is new on my website! A portable twist on a classic cherry pie, and super simple to make.

A few more pie-inspired bars:

Cherry Turnovers

Flaky, hand held, and quick if you reach for store-bought puff pastry instead of making your own. A sweetened cherry filling is all it takes to turn a sheet of pastry into something worth getting up for.

Sour Cherry Pie Filling

This is the most popular recipe on my website all summer long. If you have a surplus of cherries, this is the best way to preserve them. A batch keeps in the freezer, ready to turn into a pie, a crisp, or a spoonful over ice cream whenever the craving hits later in the year.

Icebox Cherry Pie

All the payoff of a layered cake without turning on the oven. Vanilla wafers, cherry pie filling, and almond cheesecake cream chill together into something that slices clean, and it only gets better the longer it sits.

More icebox desserts:

Sour Cherry Hand Pies

Individual, hand held, and sturdy enough to survive a beach bag or picnic basket.

Cherry Ice Cream

Fresh cherries do all the work here: bright and distinctly seasonal, and different from anything you can find in the store, trust me!

A few more ice cream recipes:

Cherry Strawberry Slab Pie

If you're feeding a crowd this weekend, this is the one to make. A juicy strawberry and cherry filling baked in flaky pastry, then sliced into neat squares straight from the sheet pan, no plating required.

Cherry Cheese Pie

This is pretty much like a cheesecake, with a crunchy animal cracker crust, a smooth sweet cream cheese filling, and the most perfect homemade cherry topping.

That's it from me! If you make any of these, I'd love to hear which one you decide! Cherry season doesn't last long enough to make them all in one go, but it's worth trying.

Kelli Avila July 17, 2026 Hello and happy Friday! Today we’re celebrating the arrival of strawberry season! Three cheers for that! Even though we live in a time when strawberries are available year round, there’s still something so special about the local crop coming in spring. It’s the anticipation...how much sweeter and more deeply flavored they are, and of course all the fun of planning what to make with them. I’ll admit, most of the strawberries that come into our house this time of year...
